I took this photo in Funabashi fishing port.
You can see a net on the boat in this photo.
Fishermen go to shallow by small boat, and catch clams (short-neck clam) with such a net.
I think it is a hard work to operate that heavy net alone.

You're right — the pole of the net looks heavy and could be very awkward alone. Not an easy life.
Very interesting for me, because my grandfather was a fisherman. I like to discover other ways of fishing. The boat has a very strange shape for me. A thing is sure: Fishermen had and have a hard life everywhere in the world!

Their clams are different to catch than our clams I think. When we catch clams we have to use a shovel to dig on the beach in low tide.
It would be very hard to handle that net alone, I agree.
