Usually, lifting gate of railroad crossing has yellow and black colour in Japan.
And those are set parallel to tracks.
That bar of the lifting gate is made of bamboo.

In France, those bars are white and red, square, and made of light metal or plastic. And there is an alarm ringing when they are about to get down, which also means a train is arriving.

They are also yellow and black here. A bell rings and there are also flashing lights warning that a train is coming.
In school we learned about "stop, look and listen" about train safety.
Ours are wood.
Isn't bamboo one of the most wonderful creations on this earth!
