A Japanese Zelkova Tree

Japanese zelkova tree in funabashi shrine
I took these photos in funabashi daijingu shrine.
This tree was damaged by cannonball in the battle of boshin war(1868-1869).
But it has been still alive.

The first surprising thing is that the tree is still alive;and that people seem to do all they can to keep it alive.
And the second is to imagine that there was a battle there...

It is so wondeful that such an old tree is being cared for.
